Sugar Cookie recipe probably came from an earlier, unleavened cookie called the jumble. Sugar cookies are very easy and inexpensive to make and to cut into Christmas cookie patterns.

3 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup white sugar
1 cup butter softened near room temperature
1 egg, beaten near room temperature
2 tablespoons cream or half and half
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
